![]() ![]() ![]() Most of the time you'll find that the charger has remained constant even after changing the MOBO. Since that does not seem to be the case, let us go back and check from previous failures ask yourself, "what has been the constant element in the 2 cases?" Would have suggested you check your SATA Operation setting in BIOS had the PC been getting stuck or crash in login screen since most DELLS have this issue of reverting their SATA Setting from AHCI to RAID or another setting which causes the PC not to go past the Windows loading screen. The screen worked fine just a few minutes prior and the laptop hasn't been moved or disassembled since the screen was previously working. We've tried running on battery only, charger only, and both together, with no change. The laptop powers on, LEDs light up, fans spin, and the display backlight seems to turn on if you look close, but no actual image appears on screen. After this point, the screen no longer displays any image. We tried removing the battery and pressing the power button to clear any stored power. ![]() The onboard diagnostics were ran at this point and all hardware passed tested. We attempted to load into safe mode, but the same black screen w/ cursor issue persisted. The laptop continued to only reach the W10 loading screen and stop at a black screen with cursor. Once it could boot into Windows on a similar machine, the HD was reinstalled in the original laptop. The hard drive was removed and installed in a similar model to complete the initial setup. This occurred repeatedly on subsequent power cycles. At this point, the laptop would boot to the Windows loading screen, but just before it would begin to the initial setup configuration(keyboard layout, user account, Cortana settings, etc), the screen would go black with only a cursor on screen. The install process seemed to proceed as normal and laptop rebooted as expected. The CMOS battery was replaced, but the issue persisted. However, the CMOS beeps stopped after installing the laptop battery and letting it sit on a charger for some time.Īt that point, the laptop screen turned on and we could begin a clean install of Windows 10. The board was replaced, and the new one immediately began giving bad CMOS battery POST beeps. It appears to be in very good physical condition but it came in with a bad motherboard. Laptop is a Dell Latitude 3540 with 4th gen i7 and AMD 8850 dedicated GPU. ![]()
